Portobelo Panama

Portobelo Panama

Portobelo is a sleepy little village found on the Bay of Portobelo in the province of Colon. This is the north or Caribbean side of Panama. Most of the time it is a quiet little town with not a lot going on. There are however, lovely beaches and some very interesting historical sites to tour. During Carnavale, which takes place each in February, El Festival del Nazareno (The Festival of the Nazareth) in October, Mes de la Patria in November and the Christmas season in December, Portobelo transforms into an energetic party town! If you’re searching for an authentic Panamanian experience where you will meet plenty of local people these are the times of year to visit Portobelo. But if you prefer quiet and just enjoying natural and history on your own than every other time of year is perfect in Portobelo. Regardless of which time of year you chose to visit the people of Portobelo are always open and friendly. It’s not uncommon to be invited into their homes or out to party.
